Fresh Start! Forgiveness Sermon II

Fresh Start!  Forgiveness in Scripture:  Sermon II Part II    1/19/20

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;  13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

(Message continued from last week…)

At The End of Every Argument

14 But above all these things put on love (Godly Love), which is the bond (uniting principle, ligament) of perfection (completeness). 15 And let the peace (tranquillity) of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful (grateful).

How can we have love, unity, perfection, peace, and thankfulness if we do not forgive?

16 Let the word of Christ dwell (influence) in you richly (abundantly) in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing (caution or reprove) one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

How can we sing “with grace in our hearts to the Lord” if we have refused to love or forgive our brother?  Where is the grace in that?

17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. -- Colossians 3:12-17

Are you comfortable today with how you love and forgive others?  Are you comfortable with your behavior being done “in the name of the Lord Jesus”?

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.” -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Let us pray.
